Container Vessel, M/V "ZIM HONG KONG"

Zim Container Service, based in Haifa / Israel, is operating this class of vessels on their run from Israel to the Far East through the Panama Canal. There are 7 vessels in this class, built in HDW / Germany during 1988 -90.

The vessel is equipped with an 8 cylinder SULZER diesel engine with an output of appr. 28,000 horsepower.

Most of the automation on board was again provided by SIEMENS and includes a de-centralized monitoring system (SIMOS 32C) and the PLC-based engine remote control system (RCS 51).

The picture to the right shows the vessel docking in Long Beach, California.

The monitoring system consists of independent working substations, each one capable of processing up to 40 alarm points, which can be freely programmed by the end user. The universal substations accept any kind of input commonly used in the industry (Digital, mA, V, Pt100, NiCrNi).

A PLC-based master unit is processing the signals from each substation and organizes the display and logging of signals.
