Ryno Enterprises is providing parts and services for shaft generators made by SIEMENS. We would like to introduce the concept on our web site. SIEMENS shaft generators have been producing power economically for more than 20 years. Since the shaft generator is driven by the main engine (see installation options), it is possible to use the less costly heavy fuel oil for power generation, thus reducing operating costs.
This also leads to a reduction of the maintenance and inspection costs for the auxiliary diesel generators, since the WGA 23d can supply the whole ship's hotel load when the main engine is running at more than 40% of its rated speed, and the auxiliary generators can then be shut down.
The operating times of the auxiliary diesel generators can thus be reduced considerably and the efficency of the main engine can be better utilized.
The already very successful technology has been improved still further by an additional development: The new SIEMENS WGA 23d shaft generator plant has been equipped with the SIMADYN D fully digital multi-microcomputer system for controlling the plant.
Amongst the many customers, APL's new C-11 class ships have been outfitted with the WGA 23d. The photo below shows the APL "JAPAN".

The major components of the WGA 23d are depicted here. Please use your browser's "Back" button to return to this page. The next photo shows the individual panels
a) Control Cubicle: It accommodates the SIMADYN D digital control system. b) Excitation Cubicle: Contains excitation and run-up converter as well as switchgear and protective devices. c) Converter Panels: Number of converter cabinets required is depending on plant rating & configuration.
